The Malawi Institute of Education is a hub of educational activities with particular emphasis in curriculum development, in – service of education personnel and research. Since 1982, MIE with the support of the Ministry of Education has provided crucial services such as the development of curriculum materials for schools, the development and implementation of in-service programmes for primary education advisors (PEAS), teachers managers and college tutors and lastly the development and implementation research and evaluation exercise during and after curriculum development activities. Thus from direct observation and evidence from research, MIE is playing a significant role in improving the education culture of the Malawi nation.
In its endeavors to enhance the improvement of education, MIE established the Museum of Education at Domasi.
