MIE Embarks on Major Environmental Conservation Drive

The Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) has launched a significant environmental conservation initiative by planting over 200 trees at its campus, marking the official start of the 2026 tree‑planting season. The Institute expects to plant more than 2,000 indegenous and various fruit seedlings throughout the season as part of its broader commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience.

The tree‑planting exercise was led by the Acting Executive Director, Mr. Jennings Kayira, and involved active participation from Management, staff members, teachers and students from Domasi Government Primary School. The involvement of teachers and learners added a meaningful educational dimension, reinforcing the importance of nurturing environmental consciousness among young people.

Speaking during the event, the Acting Executive Director emphasized the shared responsibility of environmental stewardship.
“As we plant these trees today, let us remember that we are planting seeds of resilience, responsibility, and renewal. In the years to come, when these trees stand tall, they will serve as living symbols of our commitment to sustainability and responsible leadership,” he said.

This initiative presents MIE going beyond its mandate as it is now promoting responsible citizenship, climate awareness, and long‑term environmental sustainability, while strengthening community engagement and a culture of environmental responsibility.
