Collaborative Curriculum Validation in Progress at MIE

Education stakeholders and partners from across Malawi have convened at the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) for a national syllabuses validation workshop taking place from 27 to 30 April,2026. The workshop follows a call for expressions of interest and brings together key institutions committed to ensuring that Malawi’s curriculum remains responsive to national priorities, learner aspirations, and the demands of an increasingly dynamic global landscape.

The validation exercise focuses on syllabuses for upper primary (Standards 5–6) and lower secondary (Forms 1–2) across all  learning areas. Through collective review and expert input, the process aims to strengthen curriculum relevance, coherence, and quality.

Participating institutions include the Malawi Bureau of Standards, Teachers Union of Malawi, Dzuka Publishing, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Malawi College of Distance Education, Bookmate, Tumpale Publications, Malawi Union of Academic and Non-Fiction Authors, Association of Christian Educators in Malawi, Muslim Association of Malawi, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, Malawi College of Education, and the Reserve Bank of Malawi, among others.

The workshop was officially opened by the Acting Executive Director of MIE, Mr. Jennings Kayira, who expressed appreciation to all partners for their continued collaboration. He emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in curriculum development, encouraging participants to engage openly, critique constructively, and draw on best practices from diverse contexts.

This validation process underscores MIE’s ongoing commitment to delivering inclusive, relevant, and high-quality education for all learners in Malawi.
