Creating a safe, healthy, and productive work environment remains a key priority for institutions seeking to enhance employee well-being and organizational performance. In line with this vision, the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) has launched a comprehensive five-day Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Training Programme aimed at strengthening workplace safety practices and environmental responsibility.
The training marks another significant step in fostering a culture where health, safety, and environmental consciousness are embedded in daily operations. Bringing together staff members, management, and facilitators, the programme provides a platform for increasing awareness, strengthening compliance with safety standards, and promoting proactive risk management across the institution.
Officially opening the training, Acting Executive Director Mr Jennings Kayira underscored that workplace safety is not merely a regulatory requirement but a strategic priority that contributes directly to institutional effectiveness, employee productivity, and long-term sustainability.
“We are committed to making MIE a safe place for all employees,” he said.
Mr Kayira further assured staff that management remains committed to addressing challenges related to the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), recognizing its critical role in protecting employees from occupational hazards.
Participants explored a range of key topics, including hazard identification, environmental stewardship, emergency preparedness, and preventive safety measures, gaining practical skills needed to enhance workplace resilience.
Speaking during the programme, Regional WASH Officer Mr Schubert Zgambo Lungulera described the training as a clear demonstration of MIE’s commitment to employee welfare. He emphasized the importance of equipping employees with practical safety knowledge to help prevent workplace accidents and strengthen workplace preparedness.
More than a professional development initiative, the HSE training reflects MIE’s unwavering dedication to protecting its workforce, advancing institutional excellence, and building a workplace where every employee can perform their duties with confidence, security, and peace of mind.
