Day 3 of the conceptualisation workshop for secondary school and primary teacher education curricula

The momentum continues at Gmalina Court in Liwonde. On Day 3 of the Conceptualisation workshop, participants have divided into two subsectors: Secondary School and Primary Teacher Education.

The day’s sessions focused on framing content for secondary and teacher education. Facilitators from the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) presented the current state of subject areas and content in the secondary and primary teacher education subsectors, highlighting best practices from other countries, including various pathways.

Participants were reminded to consider the aspirations outlined in Malawi 2063, particularly in regards to innovation, 21st-century skills, and the 4th Industrial Revolution.

With this foundation, participants are now engaged in group discussions to explore the following tasks for the Secondary School subsector:

– Goals of secondary education and Arts and Sports Science pathway

– Social sciences pathway subjects, junior secondary subjects, and Co-curricular activities

– Junior secondary subjects and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) pathway

– Junior secondary subjects and Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education, and Training (TEVET) pathway

– STEAM pathway and Junior secondary subjects

– Arts and Sports Science pathway and junior secondary subjects

– TEVET pathway and Co-curricular activities

– Goals of secondary education and STEAM pathway

– TEVET pathway and Arts and Sports Science pathway

– Junior secondary subjects and goals of secondary school education

Meanwhile, participants in the Primary Teacher Education subsector are working on their specific tasks, focusing on goals, vision, philosophy co-and extra-curricular activities.

The outcomes of these discussions will inform the development of secondary school and primary teacher education curricula that align with the expectations from the needs assessment and the Malawi 2063 national blueprint.
