What services/things will people able to see in the Museum

As a museum dedicated to documenting the history and development of education, we would offer a wide range of services and things for people to see, from historical artifacts to interactive programs. Currently visitors will be able to see historical artifacts teaching and learning materials such as slates, fountain pens, inkwells, early textbooks, and exercise books; teaching aids like globes, abacuses, maps, and scientific equipment from different eras; documents such as historical school records, photographs of school buildings and students, report cards, and curriculum guides. There is also video presentation on the history of education in Malawi.

Who is eligible to visit the museum

The museum of education, is designed to be accessible to a very broad audience. As a public institution whose mission is to serve society and its development. It is open to all who are curious and eager to learn about the history and development of education, regardless of their age, background, or prior knowledge.

Are there any fees attached to the visitors to pay to access services in the museum

Currently we are charging no fees for people visiting the museum. We want to encourage our audience to give suggestions and donate artifacts and things for the museum. Therefore, in the meantime people can visit the museum for free. However, in future once we fully operationalise, visitors will be asked to pay a little something to carter for the cost of running the museum.

Are there some historical people or activities or things from Zomba that will be displayed in the museum

The Museum of Education’s core mission is to document the history and development of education. Therefore, it will mostly exhibit artifacts and information related to the history of education in Malawi. However, this will not be restrictive. As a museum we believe in interdisciplinary connections and a broader social perspective so that our audience could connect to the wider world. This way we hope the museum can be more dynamic, relevant and engaging.

How will the museum boost the businesses in Zomba as far as tourism and other small-scale businesses around MIE are concerned?

We hope that the museum can significantly boost the local economy by attracting tourists and supporting small-scale businesses. It will act as a cultural anchor, drawing visitors who then spend money in the surrounding area, creating a positive ripple effect.

Add any other information that might be needed to be included in the story

This museum of education is more than just a collection of objects; it is a celebration of our shared heritage. It is a place where we can all connect with the foundational lessons that built our nation. We therefore urge people to visit the museum and explore the fascinating journey of education in our country.

As a museum, we are actively seeking to expand our collection and are reaching out to the public for support. If you have materials such as old textbooks, school uniforms, photographs, report cards, classroom equipment, or any personal documents that tell a story about your educational experience, we would be incredibly grateful for your donation. Your donations of artifacts and information, no matter how small they may seem, will help us build a more comprehensive and engaging museum for everyone.

We are also appealing to the corporate world to partner with us in this vital project. They can assist the museum with expertise and resources that can help in several critical areas such as infrastructure and construction; installation of technology and multimedia; conservation and archiving; educational programs and outreach and general financial contributions.  Those partners will be prominently recognised, with opportunities for naming rights, brand visibility in our marketing materials, and special recognition at our opening ceremonies.

Join us in growing this unique collection and share the news with others.
