MIE Engages Development Partners to review draft materials for grades 1-4 syllabuses under National Primary Curriculum Review

The Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) recently convened a consultative meeting with key development partners to review draft syllabuses for Grades 1-4 and assess integration of emerging and cross-cutting issues ranging from financial literacy, anti-corruption messages provide, Intangible Cultural Heritage, Traditional games, Wildlife and Environmental education.

The meeting brought together representatives from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Reserve Bank of Malawi, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), and Lilongwe Wildlife Trust. Its objective was to offer partners a chance for them to assess integration of emerging and cross cutting issues, including progress made and the status of the review.

During the engagement, partners were given draft syllabus materials for them to specifically assess areas of interest. These included financial literacy, anti-corruption, safety, environmental education and wildlife conservation, as well as intangible cultural heritage.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of how these priority areas have been integrated within the national curriculum framework, strengthening collaboration between MIE and its development partners.

They fully appreciated their involvement in the process of curriculum development, especially by reviewing the draft materials.
